The consecration usually takes place around the 11th month after the funeral, but can be done at an alternative date if you prefer.
In the weeks following the funeral the cemetery would have sent you paperwork with information about the headstone. If you would like any Hebrew text on the headstone or plaque then please contact either Bet-Olam or the Rabbi’s assistant to help you with this. Once your family have decided on the wording it should be sent into the Cemetery who will send you a proof and an account for the wording.
When you have signed off and paid work on the headstone or plaque can be commenced. The process for having the stone or plaque engraved usually takes 3 months from when you first send your paperwork into the Cemetery. On completion of the headstone or plaque and when you have checked the actual stone please call Bet-Olam Jewish Funerals to arrange a consecration service.
Please also note that every year on the Sunday prior to Rosh Hashanah, Progressive Judaism Victoria holds an annual memorial service in the Rose Garden of Jewish Memorial Gardens, Springvale Botanical Cemetery for all those who have passed away during the year. A letter will be sent advising you of the date and time.
